How do I get over this pain and confusion?

You're probably relieved because, even though you like him, the constant thinking about him takes it's toll and it interferes with your everyday life. You can now start to move on and concentrate on other things. You know deep down this guy isn't interested so at least you're not still holding on to the hope that he wants you. He doesn't sound all that great to me. You'll meet someone 100 times better than him. Someone who doesn't just sit around all day getting drunk.
