Would you rather have a 22lr semi auto rifle/carbine or a low end centerfire handgun for HOME DEFENSE?

I would have to opt for the Hi Point. I bought one for the glove box, and to tell you the truth the gun has bee flawless. I know its ugly, that it has some cheap thin light weight metal parts (like the safety) but it really has performed. I want a larger round to defend my home and I dont go up past small game or a ferrel dog/coyote with a 22
