Is a suit too formal for a college interveiw?

My college interview is in Minnesota in the winter so I was thinking that the suit would be both warm and formal. Is it too formal? Either that or I could wear a dress shirt and dress pants. Either way I have a pair of black heels to wear with it. Thank you!
