Can I bring 'high capacity' mags to NY?

I'm moving to New York from Oregon this Summer, and although I don't plan on bringing my guns quite yet, I'm curious about some things. I have an M1 Carbine and am planning on buying a new magazine for it. I read that NY prohibits magazines made after 1994 that carry more than 10 rounds. Assuming that I buy one made after 1994 (I'm not settling for a 10-round magazine), would I be able to bring it? I guess what it boils down to is "Is that law (and laws like it) for what you are allowed to buy in the state, or what you allowed to own there?"
